Round
5
-
WollongongPublished:
16/11/2008
Super
X
fans
treated
to
an
exciting
and
tough
night
of
racing
in
Wollongong
WIN
Stadium
played
host
to
a
classic
Supercross
showdown
tonight
with
the
crowd
of
almost
10,000
treated
to
a
fast
and
traditional
20
lap
final
at
the
fifth
round
of
Super
X,
the
Australasian
Supercross
Championship.
CDR
Rockstar
Yamaha
rider
Jay
Marmont
rode
hard
with
his
home
crowd
support,
but
it
was
Chad
Reed
who
once
again
showed
his
dominance,
taking
out
the
MX
Rad
Holeshot
award
and
leading
the
whole
race
to
maintain
his
clean
sweep
of
the
championship.
The
technical
track
and
conditions
allowed
Reed
to
show
off
his
extraordinary
skill
and
racing
rhythm
gliding
over
the
difficult
whoops
section
and
flying
incredibly
low
over
the
triple.
“The
track
layout
tonight
was
awesome
and
provided
some
exciting,
tough
racing
for
fans.
I
really
enjoyed
riding
the
20
lapper
and
I
got
a
great
start,
which
is
what
I
have
been
working
on
in
training.
I
think
it
is
great
that
so
many
people
are
coming
out
to
watch
us
race
and
Australia
is
noticing
just
how
strong
and
skilled
the
guys
in
this
sport
are,”
said
Reed.
Woodstock
Geico
Powersports
Honda,
Factory
Connection
rider
Daniel
Reardon
was
chasing
Marmot
the
whole
race,
but
crashed
on
the
whoops
section
on
the
eighteenth
lap,
which
put
him
out
of
the
race.
This
allowed
CDR
Rockstar
Yamaha’s
Cheyne
Boyd
to
take
out
third.
The
action
packed
Lites
final
showcased
the
high
quality
crop
of
young
Australian
riders
as
well
as
demonstrate
how
tough
Supercross
racing
can
be.
Shift
Motul
Suzuki’s
Matt
Moss
and
Motorex
KTM’s
Ryan
Marmont
had
a
terrible
crash
on
the
first
lap
putting
Marmont
out
of
the
final
and
leaving
Moss
to
finish
it
with
a
dislocated
shoulder.
Moss
went
on
to
win
the
15
lap
race
proving
just
how
strong
a
racer
he
is.
“I
am
in
a
fair
bit
of
pain
right
now,
but
it
was
great
to
get
the
win.
My
shoulder
popped
out
in
the
crash
with
Marmont
and
I
was
struggling
to
hold
the
handlebar,
but
I
knew
I
had
to
keep
racing
to
maintain
my
place
in
the
championship.”
Kawasaki
Racing
team
rider
Luke
George
fought
his
way
back
from
a
small
crash
on
the
first
lap
and
over
took
Moterex
KTM’s
Tye
Simmonds
in
the
final
stages
of
the
race
to
finish
second.
The
Australasian
Freestyle
Motocross
Championship
went
ahead
despite
the
drizzly
conditions
with
Kain
Saul
once
again
pulling
out
his
impressive
Ruler
and
Cordova
flips
to
claim
first
place.
Cam
Sinclair
finished
in
second
and
‘Combination
King’
Steve
Mini
made
a
return
to
the
championship
and
lived
up
to
his
name
with
some
impressive
combination
tricks
to
take
out
third.
Super
X
now
moves
to
Townsville
for
the
penultimate
round
of
the
championship
where
the
‘King
of
Supercross,’
Jeremy
McGrath,
will
join
the
competition
for
the
final
two
rounds.
