Why was the TV coverage of the final round so bad?

Did anyone pay attention to the coverage of SX this last and final weekend? First of all, I listened online so the outcome was not a surprise to me. Second, I DVR all the SX shows and come back and watch later, so I can skip the commercials.

On CBS, Sunday at 11:00 am CDT they ran the SX Year in Review. I recorded this and did not watch until today. Then at 5:00 CDT Sunday on Speed they ran the Las Vegas race. What I found interesting was on the CBS show , that ran earlier in the day. THEY PUT IN HIGHLIGHTS OF THE LAS VEGAS RACE, THAT HAD NOT EVEN AIRED ON TV YET!!!! How back asswards is this?!?

Something has got to be done about the coverage of SX if we all want the sport to grow. They won't run a live race because of the higher ups out on the east coast, and then they spoil the outcome for the ones that did not listen online and were waiting on the race to air on Speed channel. I don't get it!?!

One of the cool things about the year in review show, was they showed that "questionable pass" Short made on Reed. Short totally rammed him. While they did not show "the bird", that Reed gave Short, you do see Reed turning and his arm go up in the direction of Short.

If anyone else noticed these things, I would love to hear your thoughts.

OH, also I would like the show to be 2 hours long, so they can show all of each and every race, and even some preshow scenes, people who seen a live show know what I mean, there is lots of other stuff I would love to see..........

I do the same thing as you, and when I watched the CBS special I stopped it part way through so it woulnd't spoil anything for me, and watched it after I seen all the racing, including the lights, so i just finished watching it then. I think they don't do it live so they can spruce it up a bit, if not it would probabally look like Arenacross. And it would be harder to imidiately show replays and stuff. However I hate waiting a week to watch the lights, that's just crazy........

both speed and cbs have contracts with SX... the reason why cbs aired the year end highlight show is they wanted the ratings... its not cbs's fault speed doesnt air SX until 5 in the evening that time slot for cbs was paid for by SX... as for sheheen and emig, they dont bother me until they drool over some riders i.e. kevin or especially short at the end of the season... SX is definately growing but if u want the sport to get the coverage it deserves then they have to grab a wider audience...

that is well said NR4Reed22....it is the same here in australia they have golf and basketball and every round of spanish football league and then what we have to sit up some nights til 1:30 am to see SX cause there is NCAA tournament on........the excuse that it would be too late is a soft excuse....sports fans will get up at 4:00am to watch something they are interested in i know i have.....world cup soccer a couple years ago most of australias games were live in the early hours of the morning and i know of heaps of people who changed their after work activities to go to sleep early so they could surface at stupid oclock to watch.....i know i would do it to watch SX live.....the good thing about that is if it was live it would be sunday about 11:00am so i would be right anyways..........bring on the live SX for 09!!!!!!!!

I have to totally agree with you. I listened online Saturday night, which I thought was so stupid that they didn't have it on TV. I mean they put nascar on every sunday for the whole freaking day, this was the last race of the season. Then CBS airs the year end rap up and speed didn't even air the race yet. I heard something as I was listening with either a big shot from speed or cbs..someone is marketing talking about the reasons for not putting it on TV were pretty much stupid. Hopefully next year they will have it aired. I understand that it is on the west coast and people on the east coast have to stay up so late to watch it...BIG deal!! Look at the stupid stuff they air on TV..golf, nascar ALL day long.

i waited til i watched vegas to comment on this but i am going to have to say i agree totally the coverage has been less than stellar this year i think.....one thing i want to comment on is why when kdub is out front by himself they will show nearly every lap of him but when chad is out front they show the battles in the field?? and yes i know they do it with chad sometimes too but not like they do for others [even in years past] and on that why do they show that anyway when after listening to the webcast you know there are other big battles going on for other spots......thats what we want to see not someone cruising around unchallenged. i think the whole thing needs a revamp and show more racing.......they show hours of nascar going round and round but jam all the high excitment of SX into a 45 minute highlight session!!!
JO- would have to agree 200% with that when emig and shaheen are commentating.....yawn at least holley and weigant make it sound like its more than a couple snails racing.....i think they should do both cause no matter what happens over there with SX being live or whatever next year we will probably still get it a week later so we need the webcast!!! and as i said those two make it sound like SX!!

I won't argue with you on that, JO, but what about the programing. It would not matter who you put in there if one station ruins a anothers programs.

I think Ralph shaheen and jeff eming need to go. Jason weigant and jim holly should take over on the tv side. They do a great job online.

I completely agree with you! I was highly disappointed with the coverage of this Supercross season, especially the last week or so. I don't like how fast they run through it, I believe they should do more interviews and I get so disappointed when they cut through the heat races so quickly without showing us the entire heat race. I just love watching SX and look foward to it each & every week and I wish it was longer and more detailed coverage of the sport. I wish they did more post race interviews. I would be stoked if they would just run all the races live or atleast not ruin the outcome for us ahead of time. And it really stinks that I have to wait a whole extra week to watch the Lites race on Speed. But the cool thing is on youtube.com LNM Motorsports does tons of interviews and covers a lot of stuff Speed & CBS do not. So thats something cool that I'm not sure if you know about, but I totally agree with you, it was very backwards this past week. I wonder if there is something we could do?
